My research at UEC is not very common for this university because it considers biology. UEC does not have a biology department but fortunately for me, they have one good laboratory in this field - Sanpei sensei`s laboratory.And I have the opportunity to do research there.
More specifically, my major and research field is microbiology and biotechnology.I am especially interested in bacterial cultivation and their metabolism.I had been working in a research institute for 2.5 years before I came here and the result is one published paper.
My research here considers more the metabolic side of bacteria, especially the genetic aspect.Sanpei sensei is very competent in genetics so that is the reasons why I wanted to join his laboratory. My main goal of this year in research is to increase my knowledge in bacterial genetics, both in theory and methods.
More specifically, I am going to carry out gene expression regulation experiments.I have an idea how to connect the gene expression with growth phases.The point is to take samples during cell cycle changes and measure some of the most important and interesting gene`s expression level changes.My sensei also approved this idea - preparement experiments have already been finished and now I have to move to the real ones.
I am looking forward to the following semester because then I have a lot more time for laboratory.If the experiments are going to be successful, we are hopefully going to write a paper.
