Institute of Technology, Bandung (ITB) is a state university located in Bandung city, West Java province, Indonesia. Established at March 2nd, 1959, its main campus location at present time is the location of the first engineering high school in Indonesia. Having Ganesha (a deities in Hindu pantheon with shape of an entity with elephant head and four arms) as its institution symbol, which is a symbol of intellect and wisdom.
ITB's main campus is really big, even bigger than UEC. ITB also has a special area outside (but near) from main campus, that is special for outdoor sport utilities (jogging & running track, swimming pool, diving pool, soccer field, basketball field, and tennis field), indoor exhibition, indoor formal meetings, and indoor & outdoor ceremonies, which called Sasana Budaya Ganesha (SABUGA). The atmosphere inside ITB is supportive both for academic & non-academic activities. Somehow I feel peaceful when I am inside ITB.
ITB has main concentration on science, technology, and art development. In science, ITB has five majors, that are mathemathics, physics, chemistry, biology, and astronomy. In engineering/technology, ITB has many majors, for example: electrical engineering, informatics engineering, chemical engineering, physical engineering, mechanical engineering, aerospace engineering, civil engineering, environmental engineering, geological engineering, and many more. In art, ITB has some majors, that are art of painting and sculpturing, handicraft, interior design, visual communication design, and product design.
Beside of academic activity, ITB gives chance to its students to be involved in non-academic activities and organization. There are sport clubs, art & culture clubs, education clubs, and student unions. Sport clubs are swimming & water polo, soccer, basketball, archery, table tennis, and many more. Some sport clubs are having its base at SABUGA. Art & culture clubs are Japanese culture, Sundanese art, marching band, choir, ITB's art appreciation, and many more. Education clubs are ITB's campus radio, student film league, Ganesha TV, amateur radio club, and many more. For student unions, there are student union of the same major (each major usually have one, with its own distinctly designed jacket), and student union of the same religion (Catholic, Christian, Moslem, Hindu, and Buddha).
ITB has a good reputation as one of the best universities in Indonesia. Also, ITB has a good relationship with its sister universities and commercial company from foreign country, like Japan, Korea, Taiwan, Dutch, Germany, France, Australia, etc. There is an International Student Office (ISO) that deals with cooperation programs with sister universities and commercial company, such as exchange study, summer school, working abroad, and many more.
I am really proud to become a student of ITB, especially inside of my beloved major, Electrical Engineering. Entering ITB is one of the best decisions that I have taken in my life.
