Griffith University

Griffith University has six campuses located in south eastern Queensland, Australia. They are the Queensland Conservatorium, Southbank, Logan, Gold Coast, Mt Gravatt and my home and biggest campus, Nathan. Griffith was established in the 1970's to take some of the load off the two older universities in the Brisbane area and because of this is sometimes unfairly seen as the inferior little brother. In reality, Griffith has a high class faculty and excellent facilities. Griffith has a focus on cutting edge areas, especially in the Science and Electronic Engineering faculties.

The Nathan and Mt Gravatt campuses are located in the Toohey National Park, about a 20 minute bus ride from Brisbane's CBD. Because of the location, both campuses are very beautiful and have a distinctly Australian feel about them, up to and including goannas scavenging out of the bins at nighttime. Nathan and Mt Gravatt are also close to several key locations, such as ANZ Stadium and the Garden City shopping centre. On Nathan campus there are good student facilities as well, including several computer labs with up to date systems and cheap printing, a good cafeteria (Griff-Maccas as it's commonly known), plenty of parking, a large library and a bus stop right in the middle of it.

The residential college at Nathan holds 750 students from all walks of life. I have personally lived with people who could drive to where they used to live in 20 minutes right through to Zimbabweans, Indians, Americans and Japanese. The residential college is like a mini village, where after a few years you can put a name to most faces and everyone will stop for a chat. There is an electronic forum that the computer literate use to talk to each other and organise parties and games, and even the official people are good at organising fun events for everyone like pub crawls, intercollege sports, trips to the Gold Coast and so forth.
