My Research For my research project I will be investigating the Needham Hypothesis and it's counterargument. My thesis is explicitly; "Science, in all its forms, originally stems from East Asia. This claim was popularly theorized by Joseph Terence Montgomery Needham. Opponents of Needham's claim argue that science can be only accredited contingent upon its ability to cause a change or revolution. One of the most popular Scientific Revolutions occurred during the sixteenth and seventeenth centuries. Citing discoveries and innovations in Astronomy and astronomical instruments, it is evident that China was a forerunner in science, ahead of even the Arabs and Greeks." The social motivation behind this research can confirm that 'modern' science and medical methods are not solely products of Europe and the Americas, but original notions of East Asians. I believe that this research is considerably important, because during my pre-collegiate education, it was never taught that the East Asian cultures were forerunners in science. That attribution was most always awarded to Greek and Roman cultures. The future goal of my research is to confirm that 'modern' science and medical methods are not solely products of Europe and the Americas, but original notions of East Asians. The objective of my research is to prove that The Needham Hypothesis was correct in stating that the countries of East Asia were forerunners in science. I will utilize both paper and web documents to prove my thesis. This includes educational web-pages, government web-pages, scientific documents, encyclopedias and journals.
