Electronic Payment Systems for tinny amounts. (Micro Payments)

Since last semester, I am working with Micro Payment systems, which consists of electronic payments mechanisms for drive small amount trade transactions, like buying the information of a webpage or for download a mp3-encoded music file.

The main goal of Micro Payment systems is to decrease as possible the operational cost involved in each transaction. The need to use this kind of systems is comming from the fact that the operational cost for conventional electronic payment mechanisms are bigger than the amount of the trade transaction involved in the payment.

There are several already proposed schemes to drive this kind of payment operations, but there are still some problems to solve and also the posibility to find new ones from the proposed schemes.

About this topic is my research at UEC, in OHTA-KUNIHIRO Laboratory at ICE Department, under the advisoring of Prof. Kazuo OHTA.

Some interesting notes about the status of this research are:

  • We are working to propose a mechanism to generate a Check List for the MR3 (Micali- Rivest) Scheme.
  • We are implementing the MR2 and MR3 schemes in a web-based Information Delivering System, using Java platform.
  • We are looking for security problems in the MR schemes.
