First Impression of Japan

I arrived in the Narita Airport at 10.30am on the 2 October 2004 feeling excited but exhausted from long sleepless journey. Regardless, my mind was constantly filled with thousands of thoughts about Japan and its lifestyle as I read in books, comics and see on TV.

As I came outside Narita and continue my journey to UEC, I was in fact dissapointed with what I saw. I have always imagine Tokyo to be modern and glamorous, however I did not see those on the way to UEC. All I saw were rundown buildings covered with black soot from air pollution. As I arrived in Chofu station, I felt a little lost and disorientated, especially due to the existence of hundreds of people around me. Initially, it was very hard to adapt to a crowded environment since I came from a small town, where there are only less than 100,000 people in the city center.

To conclude, however, I believe the first impression of Japan was not completely bad as I believe I have only seen the small picture of Japan. Thus, I am hoping to see more of Japan, especially the cultural and traditional lifestyle those are the true representation of Japan.
