Research

My research is focused in recognize the sound that surround us. The sounds that humans can hear are one of the most important sources of information, we can obtained much information not only from voices but also “environmental sounds” or “events sounds”, these are what we hear every day, in anyplace like restaurants, street, parks, airport , train station, or specifics sounds like cars, airplanes, dog´s barks, etc. These sounds are important clues to understand the surrounding and help us to take decisions.

The Goal is to developed a system for robotics applications, I want to provide hearing to robots and this project could be also use to help people with hearing impaired . After identify the sounds in the environment the next step will be to add a source location system and this will be other project that I would like to continue after my master degree.

Actually I am making a study on "Matching Pursuit" algorithm as feature extraction method with Gabor dictionary (time-frequency), Mel Frequency Ceptrals Coefficients (MFCC’s), and classifiers like Artificial Neural Networks, Gaussian Mixture Models, Hidden Markov Models.

After my master degree I want to continue with my Ph D.Now I am trying to Learn as much as I can while I am in Japan. This is a great experience that will help me not only in my research but also give me a different way to see the world changin my way of be into the daily life.
