Step 13. Install memory on the motherboard Be sure to check the motherboard manual for a list of recommended memory. Memory for the AMD Athlon processor motherboards comes in DIMM (dual in-lin memory module) modues or sticks. The DIMM stick has notches that align them to the memory socket. Photo 18 shows DIMM memory and the sockets for SD11. Usually you should install the first stick in socket 1 and the second in socket 2 and so on. Do not handle the DIMM sticks by the edge connectors(the gold edgle). For other mainboards, consult the reference manual for your motherboard to determine the correct installation sequence for the memory.. Photo 18. DIMM Memory Stick and memory sockets for SD11 The first step to install the DIMM stick is to open the levers on the left and right of the memory socket, shown in Photo 20. Then, properly orient the stick to the memory socket by using the notches in the DIMM stick to . Insert the stick into the socket with a straight down motion. Seat it firmly. The locking levers will close automatically when you have properly seated the DIMM stick. Photo 19. Install memory on the motherboadrd Step 14. Install AGP graphics card AMD recommends an AGP grpahics card to provide the best performance for your new AMD Athlon processor-based system. At the beginning you bring up your system, configure the system with the minimum necessary components. The first card to be installed is the AGP graphics card. With processor, memoy, drives, and graphics, the system will start and run. A basic configuration minimizes troubleshooting in case of problems. Photo 20. The location of AGP socket Insert the AGP card into the dedicated slot. This card fits into only one slot (normally the slot nearest the processor). When the card is fully seated, install the hold-down screw into the case. Photo 21. Install the AGP card Step 15. Install floppy drive cable Photo 22. shows the connector for floppy drive cable for SD11. At the end of this connector, there is a mark 1 2. The edge of the floppy drive cable marked in red must face 1 2 or Pin1 in the photot. Photo 22. The location of FDD cable connector for SD11 Your floppy drive cable will have more drive connectors than you will use. However, one end is connected to the system board and the other end is connected to the floppy drive. Make sure you use the cable connectors that do not have twisted wires between them. Photo 22.
