My first impression of Japan

Before coming to Japan, I tried to gather some knowledge about the culture and customs and talked with some of my friends, who have been living in Tokyo, to get to know how the life there is. Even after that, I have to admit, it was really difficult to imagine myself living on the other side of the Earth and in totally different culture, especially next to skyscrapers. So I prepared myself for a huge shock.

The very first thing that I noticed in Tokyo was the number of people, while I was on my way to UEC. We were using many trains and passed through many stations and of course Shinjuku station, which is the biggest in the World, as I heard later. Interesting fact that I would like to mention here is that the number of people using this station everyday is more than entire population of Estonia, which is hard to imagine at least to me.

Second thing that caught my eye were really friendly people around and eager to help you. Everything is well-planned and organized and they have thought even about the smallest detail to make getting used to your new life easier.

In Estonia I was dreaming about high buildings and crazy traffic here in Tokyo, but to say the truth, the traffic is not that bad at all, I would even say it is opposite, at least to compare with Tallinn (capital of Estonia). I thought that most of the buildings in Tokyo would be skyscrapers, but I was wrong again, still one of the greatest experiences was to see all over Tokyo from the top floor of Sunshine Building.

Now I have already visited very beautiful Nikko and I'm waiting to see an ancient and at the same time modern Kyoto.

To conclude I would like to say that even if living in Japan is so different I'm enjoying my stay here very much and I hope to get to know a lot about Japan, Japanese and especially Japanese cuisine and in the end it will be the best year of my life.
