Overseas Travel Accident Insurance

Non-Japanese who plan to stay in Japan for less than three months are not able to enroll in the National Health Insurance scheme (see Sections "Enrollment in National/Social Health Insurance" and "Medical Expenses and National Health Insurance"). Thus, they are recommended to enroll in overseas travel accident insurance before coming to Japan. Although people who stay in Japan for more than three months can enroll in the National Health Insurance scheme, the scheme does not cover during the passage. If you are concerned about illness or accidents during the passage, you might want to enroll in overseas travel accident insurance.

*Note: The types of Japanese private insurance in which non-Japanese with a visa period of stay of less than one year can enroll are extremely limited.
